Action film trailer analysis- The hunger Games: Mockingjay

An establishing shot opens the trailer. We can see a lot of industrial buildings and a hovercraft fly swiftly over the top of them. This sets the scene for the audience and allows them to understand what kind of palce it is.  We then see a long shot of three people sitting in a room. The man who is speaking looks quite laid back and in control. This is because he is leaning back on his chair and acting quite casual. In his dialogue he says 'listen to me'. This shows he is in control because he is giving the order to listen to him. It also shows the audience that perhaps he knows exactly what he is doing compared with other people who may not know as much as him. As their conversation continues we see images of Katniss, the girl they are talking about. The fact that they are showing Katniss whilst talking about her is allowing the audience to fully understand who she is. When the man talking says that Katniss is the follower we see a close up shot of a young girl looking up to what we expect to be Katniss. This shows the audience that she is an iconic figure because it seems as if people are reaching out to her and they need her in order to succeed. We then see a long shot of a fairly dark and grimy looking room filled with people of all ages. In the middle we can see a figure, Katniss, and everyone is walking towards her. You can just make out that she is carrying a bow in her hand and she has a pack of arrows on her back. This means that she is armed and they could be used to potentially kill. The fact that all those people in the room are walking towards her could show that they are in no way afraid of her and its almost like they need her. Straight after this scene the non- diegetic music gets faster and quite exciting. This is effective as it means that the audience may suspect something exciting is going to be shown so it will make them want to keep watching. The next scene we see is a long shot of the president. He is explaining how the mockingjay symbol is forbidden. This mockingjay symbol is Katniss. The effectiveness of this scene is that it allows the audience to realise that there will be people fighting against Katniss in order to keep to the presidents wishes. The next few scenes we see a lot of fighting going on which may lead the audience to believe that the majority of people are fighting against Katniss. However, the next scene we see a close up of a young looking boy, possibly around the age of 12, say to Katniss 'Are you fighting Katniss?'. When the audience hear this they may assume that it is only Katniss fighting and she has no support from anyone. However after a pause the boy continues with ' Are you here to fight with us?' to which she replies 'I am, I will'. This then shows the audience that Katniss does in fact have a lot of support and she is prepared to fight. This is effective becasuse it leaves the audience wanting to know what is going to happen and they will want to go on and see the film.
