Film Poster Analysis- Jaws

The background for this film poster is black. This is very effective because it makes the titles and the pictures stand out against it. The picture on the poster is of a huge shark swimming upwards towards a female swimmer. As the shark has its large, sharp teeth on show it clearly represents that the swimmer is most likely to get eaten. Inside this picture just above the swimmer is the word 'Jaws'. This is in red writing. This is effective as it could signify blood. As blood is a common theme in horror films it shows the audience that this is a horror/thriller film poster. Due to the fact that the picture in the center of the poster is surrounded by black, it makes it stand out more. This is effective because it means the audience can clearly see the picture. It shows the shark to be massive compared to the swimmer. This then allows the audience to understand just how much of a threat the shark could be. At the bottom of the poster there are the names of the actors in the film. Right underneath the picture are three names that are bigger than all the rest. Perhaps these are the most well known names which means the audience will recognise them more than the other names. This would make them more likely to go and watch the film because they will want to see the big-named stars. These names are in white font. This is extremely effective as they stand out against the black background.
