Fury Film Trailer Analysis

The trailer begins with an extreme close up of three army tanks moving along the field. The setting is deserted and the sun is beginning to go down. We then see a long shot of what we believe to be the tanker with soldiers on it. You can't see any of their faces, you can simply only see their outline because of how dark it is. This gives the audience the impression that they are trying to stay hidden so they are only moving during the night. A close up is then shown of a soldier. From his facial expression we can see that he looks quite worried but at the same time extremely focused. A long shot allows the audience to fully understand that some sort of war is going on. This is because we can see shots being fired by soldiers. However we can not hear the diegetic sounds of the gun shots or any of the soldiers. We can just hear the non-diegetic music being played. This music is very low slow paced. This could reflect on what is being shown on screen- a war. We then hear the main character say 'I promised my crew a long time ago I'd keep them alive'. As he is speaking this a series of close up shots of men appear showing the audience who his crew are. Also because he is saying that he will keep them alive it could suggest to the audience that he is the main soldier who has the best chance of keeping himself and others alive. The non- diegetic music then starts to get louder and more fast- paced as the trailer continues. We are then shown a two person mid shot of the main soldier and the new assistant driver for one of the tanks. The effectiveness of this shot is that we can compare both characters and we can see that the new driver is much smaller and skinnier than the other soldier, showing the audience that he is weaker than him. During this shot we hear a series of gun shots fire. The new driver jumps at the sound which shows the audience that perhaps he is not ready to undertake this kind of job. A very slight low angle shot shows the main solider looking down on the new soldier after jumping at the gun shot. He is shaking his head at him. This shows that he perhaps knows that this soldier is going to be no good.
About halfway into the trailer we are shown a fighting scene in which the new soldier is driving the tanker. We see a long shot of an enemy soldier come up from a hole in the ground. We see this through a small slot in the tanker. This shows the audience what the people inside the tanker can see. The new soldier is given  an order to take out the enemy soldier. However he does not shoot straight away and we see a close up shot of him look to his side perhaps because he does not think he can do it. After continuous orders to shoot the enemy soldier he shoots the soldier. A close up shot shows the new soldier crying and holding his hands up to his face. From this the audience can see that perhaps he did not want to kill the enemy and he is not ready to have such responsibilities. Further into the trailer one of the soldiers says to the new soldier to wait until he sees what one soldier can do to another. This is highlighting the fact that the new soldier has no idea what goes on during a war. By the close up of the soldiers face after this is said, the audience can see that he is definitely not ready for any of this and perhaps he is not cut out to be a soldier.
