Comedy Trailer- The Sitter
The trailer starts with a mid shot of what seems to be the main character having a conversation with his mum. During this conversation the man is completely ignoring what his mum is asking him to do. Already we can tell that this is a comedy film because of the fact he is deliberately ignoring his mum. Not only this but the setting could also show that it is a comedy. It is set in a home and it is light outside. This means that the audience aren't going to expect its a horror film or anything like that. We then are shown the mum through a mid shot asking if, what we assume to be her son, has got a job yet. Through this mid shot we can see that she is standing. We can compare this to her son who is sitting on the sofa, as we saw him right at the beginnning of the trailer. This shot is shown through a high angle shot perhaps showing that he is not as important as everyone else and that people look down on him rather than up to him. This would then lead the audience to believe that he is quite lazy and doesn't have many friends. When his mother asks him if he has considered babysitting and he replies 'adult men don't babysit things'. The way he uses the word 'things' could suggest he does not like children at all as he would rather refer to them as things than actual children. However in the next clip we see a close up shot of him ringing a doorbell and a women answering. However, rather than the man, Noah, being interested in the children all he seems interested in is the woman who answered the door. This shows that perhaps he hasn't grown up yet and it also shows the audience that perhaps he is going to be a bad babysitter. For the next 20 seconds of the trailer we see Noah meet the children and already he has threatened to kill them, However this isn't in a genuine way as there is loud upbeat non- diegetic music in the background. This then allows the audience to understand he is joking but at the same time being serious.
For the remaining of the trailer we see Noah and the children invloved in a series of dangerous situations. We see a variety of close up shots, and long shots of explosions and crashes. However, whilst this is going on the upbeat, loud non diegetic music is still going on. This is effective because it is still showing the audience that whilst the film is a comedy it also involves action scenes. Also, the audience is given a clear explanation of what is going on from Noah's account. We see this through a close up shot. By his facial expression we can see that he is serious about what he is talking about. However, when he has finished speaking the music stops for just a second and then he gets punched in the face. The effectiveness of this pause in the music is that the audience may believe for that second that everything is serious and then as soon as he gets punched the comedy element comes straight back into it. This then allows the audience to fully understand that this is a comedy film. If this was an action film then there would be high speed music and there wouldn't be pauses in the music to cause a comedic effect.
The film title flashes up 20 seconds before the end of the trailer. The title colour is black and the background is yellow. As the title is black it stands out against the yellow background. After the title has disappeared we see one last scene of Noah talking to a man. This scene as funny as they are both exchanging witty remarks to one another. The point of this is that it leaves the audience with the comedy fresh in their mind. This will make them more likely to go out and watch the film.
